Non Surgical Face Lift – Miracles Abroad

Question : Is there a non-surgical face lift that works ?

Here is a little something from Dr. Boris Volshetyn, MD. MS, a Reno Plastic Surgeon to answer that famous question.

Non Surgical Face Lift

Dr. Boris Volshetyn

The simple answer to the question is NO.

There are no miracle cures today. Perhaps, in the future, with development of stem cell or similar technology, we will be able to reverse signs of aging with a simple injection.  However, it is not available today.

Laser treatments, chemical peels, fat transfers, Botox, filler injections are all alternatives to traditional facelift surgery, but still require healing time and recovery an in most likelihood will not produce results similar to a facelift.

However, I am always amazed that so many people believe that even though miracle cure is not available in US, it is available on one of the remote islands in Caribbean or in Europe.  I see people travel thousands of miles for “secret gel Injections” to Mexico, Brazil, Russia and Chech Republic just to come back with deformed faces and requiring tens of thousands of dollars worth of surgery to correct deformities resulting from those miracle cures.

If you choose to travel abroad for surgery, do your homework.

Sincerely,

Boris Volshteyn M.D., M.S.

Ways to Look Younger

Can we have a power to stop the clock from ticking so that we may be able to maintain our age and not grow old? If it is just possible, we may never see an old lady walking down the street because all of us are wishing to stay young. Nevertheless, we can counter the aging process, look and feel younger by doing the simple steps below:

Quit Smoking

Smoking has been tested to be one of the most root causes of different ailments from heart diseases to lung disorders, all of which can ruin your longevity plans.

Drink Moderately

A glass of wine for ladies and maybe two for gents can be slightly beneficial, but excessive consumption of alcohol can kill the cells and genes and intoxicate your liver.

Time to Sleep

Your body needs time to shut down to be able to rest the heart, to repair its cells and also your mind needs to dream for you to stay sane.

Eat more Omega-3 fats and Cut Saturated Fats

Eat more complex carbohydrates like whole grains, fruits, vegetables and fatty fish and minimize the cake and ice cream. Eat less or no red meat at all. Mackerel, sardines and salmons have healthy fats that can keep oxygen free-radicals from destroying your cells.

Eat Less

Losing extra pounds means lesser burden on your system. A decrease of food can give a gain in years and this has been experimented and tested on rats and rhesus monkeys.

Supplement

Too much of the wrong things can suffer us from “overconsumption malnutrition”. We must take a multivitamin daily. Aside from the very effective vitamin C, we can also add vitamin E, CoQ10, alpha lipoic acid and some of the “mental acuity” mixtures.

Be Careful when Adjusting your Hormones

Big studies have been conducted to determine the link between decreases in Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and thinner bones, more body fat and mood swings. HGH is also connected with water retention, carpal tunnel syndrome, high blood pressure, and blood-sugar fluctuations. Better to consult your doctor first before taking those hormones or steroids.

Find an Anti-Aging Doctor who Specializes in Geniatrics

If there are persons who would be more mainstream and recommend fewer unproven treatments, they are called Geriatricians because they are the experts in this field. Anti-aging can be associated with anti-puberty or anti-pregnancy because it is also a natural process in one’s body. Your doctor is the best person to ask about and to recommend anassessment of your condition yearly.

Guilt No More

Guilt and regrets are parts of the past. We stay young by adjusting, changing and evolving. We just have to be future-minded.

Don’t be Afraid to Make a Big Change

Never say you’re too old and late to try different things you’ve never been experienced before. Earlier decisions need to be changed once in a while.

Reset Your Vision of Old Age

If you want to live seven years longer according to a Yale study, thenmaintain a positive view of growing older. Work with younger people so that you can adapt to their youthful and vibrantenergy.

Never Retire

We all need some time off to have a vacation but we should not do it in excess. We can always come back and do something useful. Retirement is an exhausting and contagious disease as what others say. Therefore, never think of retiring if you don’t want to be stock up doing nothing.

Over the Counter Wrinkle Creams

Does over the counter wrinkle cream products actually effective? The answer, “it depends on several factors”. There are some wrinkle creams that have ingredients that may reduce the appearance of wrinkles. But many of these ingredients havenot gone through scientific research to prove this benefit. We have to know first the composition of each product if it is applicable to our needs. We should not just grab and buy any product that we see on the department store’s rack or on just TV commercials. It is best to consult first our doctor or dermatologist so that they can advise us with the right answers and solutions to what our skin really needs. However, some of the over the counter wrinkle creams truly work. We just have to be keen enough to get the best anti-wrinkle cream in the market.

Most over the counter wrinkle creams that can improve the appearance of wrinkles may contain these common ingredients:

  • Retinol – vitamin A compound and the first antioxidant that balances the free radicals
  • Coenzyme Q10 – nutrient that aidsto regulate energy production in cells
  • Kinetin – may enhance the appearance of wrinkles and uneven pigmentation with minimal irritation
  • Hydroxy acids –exfoliant that eliminates the upper layer of old, dead skin and triggers the growth of smooth, evenly pigmented new skin
  • Tea extracts – compounds with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties
  • Copper peptides – improve the production of collagen and wound healing

The FDA analyzes the creams and lotions as cosmetics which have no medical value. This means that unlike topically applied medications, these products don’t experience the same intensive testing for safety and effectiveness prior to market approval. That is the reason why FDA administers them less strictly than it does on drugs. Their main concern is safety rather than effectiveness, thus there is no guarantee that these over the counter wrinkle creams are 100% effective on reducing wrinkles.

When judging the quality of over the counter wrinkle creams, you can consider these points:

1.       Side effects – to prevent possible side effects, be sure to read and follow the product instructions

2.       Cost –if a wrinkle cream is more expensive, it doesn’t mean that it is more effective than the cheaper ones

3.       Latest research – research attest that some ingredients may enhance the appearance of wrinkles but they are not tested rigorouslyto prove this benefit

4.       Lower doses –some results are limited and short-lived because nonprescription wrinkle creams contain lower concentration of active ingredients.

5.       Daily use –Before noticing the improvement of the wrinkles, most creams are used in a daily basis once or twice per day for many weeks. Usually, when you stop using the product, your skin will return to its original appearance

6.       Individual differences – no one product works the same for everyone because people have different skin types

Botox vs. Anti-Wrinkle Creams

We are a bit curious why a lot of people still opt to undergo such injections like Botox even if the internet has so much information regardingits side effects.

Definition:

Botox is Botulinum Toxinthat vitally paralyzes the facial muscle when it is injected into facial areas like the forehead, the frown line between the eyes or into crow’s feet, thus preventing the severe muscle contractions that cause wrinkles. Fine lines are not caused by muscle contraction; hence Botox is not effective for fine lines.

Botox Cosmetic is a prescription medicine offered for people, ages 18 to 65. It is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) temporarily for a short period of time.

Cost:

For people who want to see immediate results, they are paying millions of dollars each year just to have a Botox Injection. As the wrinkle reduction benefits only last for a few months, several injections are required to maintain good results. This can be very costly, as each injection costs between $200 to $300 per area and injections will be required for about every six months.

Effectiveness:

Botox has proved to be a very good option for decreasing or eliminating wrinkles, at least for the short term and this was evidenced by nearly 3 million Americans who took Botox injections last year (2009).

Side Effects:

  • frozen facial features
  • headaches
  • eye droop
  • double vision
  • problems in swallowing, speaking or breathing
  • loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness
  • blurred vision
  • hoarseness or change or loss of voice
  • trouble saying words quickly
  • loss of bladder control
  • itchy rash
  • swelling
  • shortness of breath

These side effects can bear serious illnesses and can be life threatening. This may be the reason why the birth of Botox Alternatives arises.

Definition:

Anti-aging creams are mainly moisturizer based cosmeceutical skin care products marketed with the promise of making the consumer look younger by reducing visible wrinkles, expression lines, blemishes, pigmentation changes, discolorations and other environmentally (especially from the sun) related conditions of the skin (based on Wikipedia).

Many products and treatments are not yet been evidenced to give lasting or major positive effects despite great demands. One study found that the best performing creams decreased wrinkles over 12 weeks by less than 10% which is not usually seen by the naked eye. Another study concluded that expensive anti-wrinkle creams were as effective as the cheap ones. Nevertheless, recent studies at Manchester University showed that some ingredients have an effect in the minimizing of wrinkles.

Anti-aging creams are commonly marketed to women, but there are now products that are specifically suitable for men as well.

Cost:

Most anti-wrinkle creams can be bought over the counter. In comparison with the Botox, a single injection can cost you a year supply of these anti-wrinkle creams. That is how practical it is. You pay less without having to worry its side effect.

Effectiveness:

Some new products are available based on the active ingredient Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 (Argireline), which when applied to the skin of the face and neck, can help naturally relax the muscles and decrease the appearance of wrinkles.Botox cannot kill all the signs of aging because they only fill in the lines and wrinkles.  On the other hand, Anti-Wrinkle Creams are manufactured to reduce all the signs of aging like: sun damage; age spots; and bags under the eye because they get to the roots of the problem. They work on the cells under the surface of the skin, firm up the skin that thins as the body ages and helps the skin to be moisturized.

Side Effects:

There are no serious side effects in using these creams aside from some irritations but this may just be an effect if the product doesn’t suits your skin type. Some also say that the results of anti-wrinkle creams are not as immediate and visible as the Botox. However, there are now revolutionary products that promise 7 minutes or even 17 seconds of visible results.

It’s up to the judgment of the user whether to go for the Botox or the Anti-Wrinkle Cream. The only thing that’s for sure is that both of them can make us look younger and have a wrinkle-free face…

What Causes Wrinkles?

What comes to your mind when you hear the word WRINKLE?Maybe some would say old, ugly, embarrassing. Well, be afraid no more because every one of us will surely get wrinkles at the end of the day. For as long as we know how to deal with it, we can. But before that, we should learn first why wrinkles happen. Let us see the meanings of wrinkle according to our resources:

“A wrinkle is a small ridge or furrow especially when formed on a surface by the shrinking or contraction of a smooth substance: creasespecifically: one in the skin especially when due to age, worry, or fatigue“                                                                                                                                                    – Merriam-Webster

“A wrinkle is a small furrow or crease in the skin, especially of the face, as from aging or frowning”

- Dictionary.com

“A wrinkle is a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of aging processes such as glycation or, temporarily, as the result of prolonged (more than a few minutes) immersion in water. “

- Wikipedia

“A wrinkle is a slight line or fold in something, especially fabric or the skin of the face”

- Oxford Dictionary Online

Now, after learning the various definitions of wrinkle, we have studied the different factors or reasons that trigger the appearance of wrinkles. In case you’re interested, go ahead and enjoy reading….

Wrinkles are a vital part of the natural aging process. As we become older, our skin gets thinner, drier and less elastic. Our skin’s capability to protect itself from damage is also reduced as we age. Ultimately, wrinkles, creases and lines form on our skin. A person’s genetic makeup also affects how wrinkly we become, and when and where wrinkles start appearing.

Most wrinkles aim to be seen in the parts of the body which get the most sun exposure like: face, neck, backs of hands and tops of forearms.

There are also two kinds of wrinkles: surface linesanddeep furrows.

Aside from the natural sign of aging, here are the key factors that point to the development of wrinkles:

  • Genetics – if your parents developed to have wrinkles earlier than the others, you will also have a higher probability of doing so.
  • Smoking – A decreased blood supply to the skin is the effect of the link between regular smoking and the increased aging of the skin according to experts.
  • Hairstyle – Some experts agreed that some hairstyles give more shades for the face than others.
  • Lighter Skin Tone – People with lighter skin get to experience a higher level of sun damage than those with dark skin, which increases the development of wrinkles.
  • Jobs Under the Sun – People whose jobs are exposed in more sunlight can have a higher risk to become wrinkly earlier than others. Examples are sailors, fishermen, farmers, golfers, gardeners and tanning booth employees (UV exposure).
  • Clothes you Wear – Persons whodo not wear hats and long sleeves often, can usually develop wrinkles earlier in life compared to others of the same skin type.
  • Ultraviolet Light (UV) Exposure – If you spend most of your time outside in the sun during your free time, you can also experience wrinkles earlier.
  • Expressions of the Face – As perthe Mayo Clinic, every time we use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. When we are young, our skin springs back, but as it gets older and loses its flexibility, springing back gets harder and less frequent, developing in more permanent grooves. Doing facial expressions more often can lead to fine lines especially when we repeatedly smile, frown, or squint.

Now that we know the main factors that lead into the development of wrinkles, it is up to us on how we will combat it. As you read along this site, you will gain insights on the other ways and means on how to deal with wrinkles. This site also features the different treatments available today. But it is still recommended to visit your specialists or dermatologists first before deciding to use those products and treatments.
